For more than four decades, Arnout Hyde Jr. has delighted viewers with his brilliant and versatile photography. From stunning landscapes to poignant human interest photos, Arnout blends composition, lighting and detail with an intuitive sense of beauty and emotion. Arnout shoots only large-format photography to ensure the quality and clarity that have become a hallmark of his work.

Arnout served as the staff photographer of
Wonderful West Virginia Magazine for 14-years before assuming the role of editor. During his tenure as staff photographer, "Arnout Hyde Jr." became a household name in the Mountain State. In addition, Arnout has published five, coffee-table pictorial books, several calendars and a series of note cards that showcase the beauty of West Virginia. Today, Arnout's photographs hang in the West Virginia Governor's Offices, the offices of Senator Jay Rockefeller, the Federal Courthouse in Charleston, Yeager Airport and many other public buildings, galleries and museums.

While Arnout has dedicated much of his career to photographing his beloved West Virginia, he has also completed photo assignments in China, Europe, Israel and the United States. His photography appears in
National Geographic, Life, Reader's Digest, National Wildlife and Wonderful West Virginia, with more than 500-covers to his credit.

Arnout first earned a reputation for his color, scenic photography. Today, his work includes dramatic black-and-white infrared photos, classic black-and-white images and a new technique called color isolation

Arnout has received such prestigious awards as the 2000 Governor's Award for
"Visual Artist of the Year" and an Honorary Doctorate from Alderson Broaddus College. Also, three governors have named Arnout, "Distinguished West Virginian", in honor of his artistic achievement. He was presented the West Virginia Division of Tourism Lifetime Achievement Award in 2004. On August 9, 2005, Arnout succumbed to a long struggle with prostate cancer. He will be sorely missed by his family and by his many friends and fans.
